A 2005 black leather hobo from Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche, covered from top to bottom in overlapping cut-leather scales.
2005 was the first year after Stefano Pilati took over from Tom Ford, and the bags from that changeover still carry the house's "Rive Gauche" label inside. It was a period when YSL leaned heavily on texture and surface. This bag takes that about as far as it goes: hundreds of hand-cut leather petals with raw edges left dark so each row reads clearly.
It's a soft, slouchy hobo that sits close under the arm, with tiered leather ruffles finishing each side where the strap attaches. The shoulder strap is gathered black leather with a gold-tone barrel cuff engraved "Yves Saint Laurent Paris". It's attached by gold-tone rings, with a swivel snap hook on one side.
The top closes with a magnetic snap set into two leather tabs, one gold-stamped with the Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche logo. Inside is a dark satin lining with a leather-trimmed zip wall pocket and a pleated open pocket.
Style and serial number: 137267 467891. Made in Italy.
Condition
Very Good (B) - Leather is soft and the scales are intact with no tears. A few scales near the top of one side have lifted and curled slightly. Light creasing along the leather piping at the opening.
Interior: satin lining is clean with light marks from use.
Strap: supple, with creasing from use and a small loose thread near the snap hook end.
Hardware: gold-tone plating has worn on the snap hook, rings and strap barrel, with some dulling and tarnish. Magnetic snap works and shows surface wear.
